Your first visit
If you have never had physiotherapy before, it is normal to wonder what happens. Here is how the first session goes.
What happens at the first session
A chat
We talk about the problem: when it started, what makes it worse, what it stops you doing and what you want to get back to.
An examination
We check how you move, your strength and, if needed, your nerves. We will ask you to do a few simple movements.
Explanation and plan
We explain what we think is going on, how long it should take and how we will work on it.
First treatment
We usually start treatment on day one and give you your first exercises for home.
What to bring
- Your ID
- Your GeSY referral, if you have one
- Any X-rays, MRI scans or medical notes
- A list of the medicines you take
What to wear
Comfortable clothes you can move in. Shorts help for a knee problem, a vest or T-shirt for the shoulder or neck.
Common questions
Will treatment hurt?
You may feel some discomfort with certain techniques or exercises, but it should not be very painful. Tell us straight away if something hurts.
Can I bring someone with me?
Of course. You are welcome to bring anyone you like.
