Rehab after surgery
Surgery is only the start. Good rehab in the weeks that follow decides how well you move and how soon you get back to normal life.
Surgery we help with
- Knee or hip replacement
- ACL or other ligament reconstruction
- Knee or shoulder arthroscopy
- Rotator cuff repair
- Fractures, once the cast is off
- Spine surgery
How we treat it
Working with your surgeon
We follow your surgeon's guidance on what is allowed and when. Bring any notes they gave you.
Managing pain and swelling
Techniques and equipment for the first, hardest weeks.
Getting movement back
Exercises to help the joint move fully again.
Strength and balance
Step-by-step strengthening until you can walk, climb stairs and do what you did before.
How long rehab takes
It depends on the operation. An arthroscopy takes a few weeks, while a joint replacement or ACL reconstruction takes months. We tell you what to expect at each stage.
Call your doctor straight away if you have
- A wound that is getting redder, warmer or leaking
- A fever
- Pain, swelling or warmth in the calf
- Shortness of breath or chest pain
