Physiotherapy for neck pain
Long hours at a screen, stress or a jolt in the car can all leave your neck sore and stiff. Most neck pain responds well to physiotherapy.
When to come in
- Pain or tightness in the neck and shoulders
- Trouble turning your head, for example when driving
- Headaches that start at the back of the neck
- Pain or tingling that travels into the arm
- Neck pain after a car accident, once a doctor has ruled out anything serious
How we treat it
Assessment
We check how your neck moves, your posture, the muscles around your shoulders and, where needed, the nerves in your arm.
Hands-on treatment
Gentle mobilisation and soft tissue work to relax the area and reduce pain.
Exercise
Mobility and strength exercises for your neck and upper back that take a few minutes a day.
Desk advice
Small changes to your screen, chair and breaks that make a big difference.
How many sessions you will need
A recent stiff neck often improves in a few sessions. Pain you have had for months takes longer and needs regular exercise. We talk it through after your assessment.
See a doctor straight away if you have
- Pain after a serious blow to the head or neck
- Dizziness, double vision or trouble speaking
- Arm weakness that is getting worse
- Neck pain with fever and a stiff neck
Common questions
Can my headaches come from my neck?
Yes, some headaches start in the neck. We check for this in your assessment, and if it looks like something else we will send you back to your doctor.
Do you crack the neck?
Treatment is mostly gentle techniques and exercise. We always talk through any technique with you first.
Is it covered by GeSY?
